Leeds Digital Festival 2021
The Story of an International Consultancy Born in Leeds
ABOUT THE EVENT
How do you turn a small development house in Leeds into an international consultancy powerhouse? We have taken our values, passion for quality technology and belief in our people to build our international footprint.
At this event we heard from some of our team who took the international lead with us and listened to their stories of growth within BJSS and their lives in their new countries.
AS PART OF
Rich McIntyre – Chief Engineer, BJSS
Rich is the Chief Engineer for BJSS Leeds. He previously lived in Japan for 15 years which is where, apart from eating lots of great sushi, he got into tech.
He has since applied his enthusiasm for software development and architecture by working on exciting projects at the BBC, Sky, DAZN and others before working with some of BJSS’ fantastic clients. He is particularly excited about micro-services and serverless technologies.
Sarah Tulip – Head of Digital Transformation, BJSS
Sarah is Head of Digital Transformation at BJSS and leads the global client portfolio in change and growth.
She previously led Digital for EY across the North and is the Digital Ambassador for the City of Leeds. She is known also for championing less heard voices across digital through her organisation WILD.
Pedro Ferreira – Head of Delivery, BJSS
Pedro enjoys designing for humans and helping bring meaningful ideas to life. With strong and diverse experience in digital strategy and service design, he has worked on the leadership team of projects such as the NHS app, the UK Government’s flagship project for healthcare.
Having originally joined BJSS in Leeds and helping set the local chapter of SPARCK, Pedro is now spearheading the expansion of BJSS into Portugal, Lisbon.
Hannah Ellston – Regional Capability Lead, BJSS
Hannah has over 20 years’ experience of working in IT, predominantly Delivery Management. In January 2021, Hannah joined the Leeds Leadership team as the Regional Capability Lead having been a Delivery Manager for four years. She is focused on supporting BJSSers to be the best they can be through clear definitions of ‘What good looks like’ coupled with ‘Learning pathways’ for each capability area. Hannah ensures that BJSS excels in raising awareness, both internally and externally, about its people and exciting work by using channels such as events, blogs, case studies and regular community meet-ups.
Outside of work Hannah is kept on her toes by her two teenage boys, two cats and a puppy and is dreaming of a break away in the sunshine, possibly with a cocktail or two involved!
Mark Bradshaw – Delivery Management Capability Lead for USA, BJSS
Mark joined BJSS in 2010 as a Net developer and then spent 18 months working in either Java or Scala. A four-year absence ultimately followed, in order to emigrate to Hong Kong to be closer to family. Mark worked as a SQL Developer / Technical Lead, remotely, for a large multi-national “Big Data” consultancy; with clients across Hong Kong, Australia, Dubai, Iraq, USA, and a host of countries within Europe. Towards the end of his time away from BJSS Mark spent time living and working in Vietnam in order to establish and run a more traditional off-shore capability for the team.
Moving back to the UK, Mark rejoined BJSS as a Technical Project Manager and member of the Leeds Development and Architecture Capability Leadership Group. He transferred to the New York office in 2019 as a Technical Project Manager, and took on the role of Delivery Management Capability Lead for USA.
Rebecca Walton – Software Engineer, BJSS
Rebecca has been a backend developer for seven years, three of those with BJSS, and three months in Lisbon. During this time she’s worked mainly in healthcare, a domain that she is passionate about.
In her free time she likes to bake, read, and explore new places.
